The law firm of Oast & Taylor turns 100 this year, but William H. “Bill” Oast III, whose grandfather and great uncles founded the firm, is a youthful 66, with retirement not even a twinkle in his eye.
The Portsmouth-based firm, with additional offices in Virginia Beach and Elizabeth City, specializes in elder law, especially estate planning and estate and trust administration.
“So we are busy,” Oast said, “because there are plenty of people out there who are aging and dying.”
The firm began to focus on elder law in 1998 after three of its five attorneys left within six weeks, one to become a judge, one to work for the IRS, one to be an FBI special agent. The loss inspired Oast and then-partner Andy Hook to change their business model.
